League update - Covid

Dear JLL Families,

I wanted to provide an update of how we are looking to schedule games given the circumstances we all face.  It is my hope that upon the conclusion of this email you have a better sense of how our board is working to prepare for this season.

Our facilities crew and board members have been working to prepare the fields for the upcoming season.  Even though there has been a pause in play, there has not been a pause in maintaining the complex.  This spring we have added close to 130 tons of ag lime to various fields, re-cut base paths, re-worked mounds and plates and had the facility sprayed to aid our turf/playing surface.  Even though the progress has been slow, I have no doubt it will be ready once we receive a green light on resuming play.

As a league we are in the process of wrapping of drafts within the various age groups via virtual meetings and also running schedules based on three different scenarios that maximizes the number of games we can potentially play.  Since we don’t know the exact start date, we are preparing for multiple options that provide our participants the opportunity to return to the field 1) safely, and 2) as soon as possible.  To be transparent, we are looking at various start dates in May or even as late as early July.  Please understand we are running various options, but the decision to return to the field for competition will be done with the go ahead of our state authorities and various health officials.

I believe that baseball will play a part of healing this summer, and I believe the kids will want an opportunity to play this summer.  Our board is working on various ways to make this as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you have specific questions. I can’t wait to see you at the complex and pray that we are able to have kids active ASAP.

Respectfully,
Chris Andrews
President – Johnston Little League
